About Me

I am an experienced creative with an 18-year background in children’s media, currently Head Writer and Creative Producer on My Friend Maisy for Sky Kids.

I have writing credits on over 300 episodes of pre-school TV, including multi-award-winning shows like 'Peppa Pig', 'Sarah and Duck', 'Dipdap', 'Olobob Top', 'Tish Tash' and 'Morph'. I was Co-Head Writer and Creative Producer on 'Teletubbies, Let's Go!' for Wildbrain Spark, and lead writer and in-house creative on The Adventures of Abney and Teal for CBeebies.

If you’re looking for a creative partner, with a deep understanding of what resonates with young audiences (how to make them laugh!), to help shape a world and characters, establish a show’s distinctive voice, craft engaging narratives, outlines, treatments, scripts, pitch bibles, pitching strategies, or to translate your visual language into a scripted format, I would love to hear from you.

Author

My picture books and comics are published by Penguin, Cicada, Quarto, Viking and Walker Books. Strips have featured in the Guardian, Vice, Glamour and Art Review magazines.

Probably Nothing (Penguin/Viking), my autobiographical comic about cancer and pregnancy, has been optioned for TV and is currently in development.

I post regular diary comics on Instagram @MatildaTr

Teaching

Between 2008 and 2018 I taught Animation, Script Writing and Illustration at Kingston University and the Royal College of Art. Workshops included stop-frame and hand drawn animation, collage, puppetry, live action, editing, lighting, sound design, concept and story development.

I have led workshops for medical students on comics in a healthcare setting, at Essex University, Imperial College London and the University of Sussex.

Reference from Joel Stewart, creator and director of The Adventures of Abney and Teal:

“Matilda has provided the majority of plot-lines for our writing, as well as much of the narration and many, many general ideas and lots of editorial work throughout the whole process. Her ideas have been consistently funny, original, surprising, and downright numerous and I basically can't recommend her highly enough!” August 2011
