I am a comics artist, TV writer and producer with credits on multi-award-winning children's TV shows. Thanks for visiting my site.
I have written almost 200 episodes of children’s TV over the past ten years, and am currently on the writing team for Peppa Pig. Other credits include episodes of Sarah and Duck, Morph, Olobob Top, Tish Tash, and Dipdap.
Working in-house at Ragdoll Productions, I co-created The Adventures of Abney and Teal for CBeebies, and was the head writer. Quaker Oats reported a spike in sales when the series aired, thanks to the characters’ exclusively porridge-based diet.
Sarah and Duck episode, ‘Basking Shark’, which I pitched and scripted (in which Sarah adopts a basking shark online and communicates with it over Skype), won a Japan Award for best children’s animation in 2017. I'm proud to have given Granny Pig a historical reenactment society, and a new lease of life!
My picture books and comics are published by Walker and Cicada Books, Penguin, Viking and Ivy Press. I have had strips featured in the Guardian, Vice, Glamour and Art Review magazines.
Probably Nothing (Penguin, 2014), is a graphic memoir about being diagnosed with cancer during my first pregnancy (spoiler: son and I are both fine). It has been optioned for a TV series and will be adapted by a well-known playwright.
I am one third of newly-established animation production company, TroMi, with Sarah Roper and Hannah Lee Miller. We produce top-quality children’s content and have secured funding for the development of a new animated pre-school series. I also freelance as a producer at Public Dreams Ltd, developing animation.
Until 2018, I was Senior Lecturer in Animation at Kingston University. My workshops provided students with an in-depth intro to moving image, including stop-frame and hand-drawn techniques, puppetry, scriptwriting, lighting, editing, sound design and conceptual development.
I love collaborating with companies to develop their ideas, and am always interested to hear about new projects. Contact my agent, Emily Wraith at Berlin Associates, or find me on Twitter, @MatildaTris
Reference from Joel Stewart, creator and director of The Adventures of Abney and Teal:
“Matilda has provided the majority of plot-lines for our writing, as well as much of the narration and many, many general ideas and lots of editorial work throughout the whole process. Her ideas have been consistently funny, original, surprising, and downright numerous and I basically can't recommend her highly enough!” August 2011
