About Me

I am a writer and producer with a 15-year background in children’s media. I have written over 200 episodes for multi-award-winning animated shows, including 'Peppa Pig', 'Sarah and Duck', 'Dipdap', 'Olobob Top', 'Tish Tash' and 'Morph'. I was head writer and creative producer on 'The Adventures of Abney and Teal' for CBeebies and 'Teletubbies, Let's Go!' for Wildbrain Spark. Currently show-running a new adaptation of Lucy Cousins' iconic 'Maisy' books, in development with BBC Worldwide and Trustbridge Entertainment.

Clients include Blue Zoo, Aardman Animation, Ragdoll Productions, Karrot Animation, Beakus and The Elf Factory.

My picture books and comics are published by Penguin, Cicada, Quarto, Viking and Walker Books. Strips have featured in the Guardian, Vice, Glamour and Art Review magazines.

Probably Nothing (Penguin/Viking), my autobiographical comic about cancer and pregnancy, has been optioned for TV and is currently in development.

I post regular diary comics on Instagram @MatildaTr

Between 2008 and 2018 I taught Animation, Script Writing and Illustration at Kingston University and the Royal College of Art. Workshops included stop-frame and hand drawn animation, collage, puppetry, live action, editing, lighting, sound design, concept and story development.

I have led workshops for medical students on comics in a healthcare setting, at Essex University, Imperial College London and the University of Sussex.

I love collaborating with companies to develop their ideas, and am always interested to hear about new projects. Contact my agent, Emily Wraith at Berlin Associates, or find me on Twitter @MatildaTris

Reference from Joel Stewart, creator and director of The Adventures of Abney and Teal:

“Matilda has provided the majority of plot-lines for our writing, as well as much of the narration and many, many general ideas and lots of editorial work throughout the whole process. Her ideas have been consistently funny, original, surprising, and downright numerous and I basically can't recommend her highly enough!” August 2011
